Program Note
This piece was written for the Del Mar International Composers Symposium Class of 2024. It was such a privilege to be part of this incredible symposium and to write this piece in honor of my sweet canine babies, Peter, Edmund, and sweet little Mims. The piece reflects the boys’ five minutes of “run like hell” so indigenous to the Havanese breed, their three hours of sleeping afterwards along with Edmund’s little dream sounds, their unconditional love for me, their happy greetings as I awoke every morning, their curiosity, their constant desire to play and to please. Little Mims was a literal appendage to my body…all three pounds of her. Her life was short but she was my constant companion and caretaker during some very difficult times in my life. The agony of losing each of them is reflected, as well, followed by the continual sensing of their sweet spirits in my ongoing daily life. The love of all three of these beautiful animals is still with me and will remain so as long as I am on this earth.
