Program Note

This piece is dedicated and composed for my blind virtuoso pianist friend, David Lai. David’s journey is every bit as inspiring as one can imagine. He has been featured on NPR’s Performance Today as its Young Artist in Residence and also on its Piano Puzzler. He is set to finish his doctoral program at Indiana University in the fall of 2025. It was such an honor to be asked to write this piece for David. It reflects all the aspects of David I have come to know since we first became friends in 2020 during the COVID pandemic. David is a font of classical music knowledge and also of Broadway shows. He is a delightful friend, a consummate artist, and one of the most curious people I know, all of which makes me realize just how lucky I am to know him. I hope you will experience part of David’s magic as you listen to this piece.
