Program Note
Rêverie is the story of a dream. This is the first of six pieces planned for Imaginings, my instrumental song cycle. The French word Rêverie refers to a daydream, but I prefer to think of it as any dream. Dreams are unpredictable; they are fantasies. The piece originally told me it would be a nocturne…and it is, of sorts. It does evoke sounds one might have heard in the night, but it also has a fantastical, dreamlike quality. As you listen to this piece, I hope you will allow your mind to wander, accepting whatever may enter as the gift this music brings you. I have my own dream when I listen to and perform this piece…what’s yours?
